๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ Vybz Kartel’s Lawyer Might Not Go Before Appeal Judge Until 2018

Dancehall artiste, Vybz Kartel, and his three co-accused have been granted leave to appeal their convictions and life sentences.

Kartel, whose real name is Adidja Palmer along with Shawn Campbell also called Shawn Storm, Kahira Jones, and Andre St John, were sentenced in April 2014.

This, in relation to the August 2011 murder of Clive โ€œLizardโ€™ Williams.

Defence attorney, Tom Tavares Finson, says the lawyers are in the process of securing a date for hearing of the appeal, before the end of this year.

A three member panel is expected to hear the matter in the court of appeal.

Mr. Tavares Finson says Kartel is pleased with Mar 15, 2017 development.

Kartel is appealing on the basis that there was a miscarriage of justice and lack of evidence at his trial.

Itโ€™s also reported, that the defence team has concerns with how the trial judge briefed the jury about the evidence presented to the court.

The leave to appeal was granted by Justice Frank Williams.

โ€œItโ€™s a good look!โ€ โ€œCan they beat the system?โ€ are some of the chatter among industry players, following news that entertainers Vybz Kartel and Shawn Storm have been granted permission to appeal their life sentence.

Meanwhile, the legal team working on behalf of the men, question the judgeโ€™s 2014 decision to admit telephone evidence in the case.

But what does it mean that the men have been granted leave to appeal their convictions and life sentences?

In an exclusive interview with Music News, attorney at law, Bert Samuel who is representing dancehall deejay Shawn Storm, says it is good news as they are given the green light to make an appeal on two counts.

Mr. Samuels further explains that he along with the legal team are elated, enthused, and excited as they anticipate a day in court sometime close to the end of this year, or early 2018.

A three-member panel is expected to hear the matter in the court of appeal.
